2023 has been an exciting year for gender-affirming care insurance coverage in Colorado! Two important updates to insurance policies have occurred:
As of January 1, 2023, Colorado became the first state in the country to explicitly include gender-affirming care services as essential health benefits (EHBs), meaning insurance companies have to cover certain gender-affirming services for individual and small group plans.
As of August 30, 2023, Colorado Medicaid’s updated gender-affirming care policy will go into effect, reducing barriers to accessing care and aligning with current best practices.
To be clear, insurance is purposely created to be unclear! We know that understanding insurance is inaccessible and confusing, and we have heard from you that you have some questions–so we have scheduled a time to talk about it. We will be joined by a small panel of insurance experts who we have worked with to expand gender-affirming care coverage. They will help explain the updates and answer your pre-submitted questions.
